For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Corinthians 5:1. NKJ
It was the seventeenth year for the cicadas. They emerge every seventeen years with a loud chorus, mate, and lay their eggs. They shed their skins this brief time above ground and it’s always a thrill for me to find the delicate shell of one set free.
Aside from enjoying the intricate detail of such a fascinating creature, I feel a bit of freedom just holding the empty hardened shell in my hand.
I, too, will leave this aging earthly tent someday and make my way to the very presence of God. What I leave behind will be only a shell of my spirit. In that very moment, the Bible says, I’ll “be present with the Lord.” (5:8)
Father, I long for the day my earthly body with all its flaws will be shed. And I will forever be whole, praising You. Amen.
